Russian Ambassador: Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty did not enter into force because of the United States

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) did not enter into force because of the United States. It is reported by RIA Novosti .
“If the US were a responsible nuclear power, it would have ratified the CTBT long ago. It is through the fault of Washington that the treaty has not yet entered into force,” he said.
In addition, he noted that other countries, on which the fate of the relevant treaty depends, are also watching Washington’s behavior.
Earlier, Antonov said that the United States, in order to create conditions for the return to the full functioning of the Russian-American Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), should reconsider its anti-Russian policy.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin , addressing the Federal Assembly , explained that the continuation of work under the New START would be possible only when NATO member countries that possess nuclear weapons did not clarify “how their strategic arsenals will be taken into account.” Washington urged Moscow to cancel the adopted decision on START, and Brussels said that it “destroys the international security system.” More details – in the material “Gazety.Ru” .
