Attackers in 2022 published 168 significant databases of Russian companies, in total more than 2 billion records were uploaded to the network, retailers and delivery services became leaders in terms of the amount of leaked information, according to a study by Kaspersky Lab, the results of which are available to RIA Novosti.
“According to the Kaspersky Lab report “On Significant Data Leaks in Russia”, in 2022, 168 cases of publication of significant databases of Russian companies were recorded. In total, more than 2 billion records were published. This is almost 300 million user data, of which 16% – about 48 million lines contained passwords… Most of the user data (64%) was compromised as a result of attacks on large businesses. The leaders in terms of the amount of leaked information stated in messages on specialized sites are the delivery (34%) and retail (14%) ),” the statement said.
Significant Breach – A data breach that compromised more than 5,000 lines of user data or received media coverage.
It is noted that the top 10 in terms of the number of published user data included two leaks of companies from these industries. “At the same time, data compromise also most often occurred in retail organizations — their share was 26% of the total number of companies that faced this problem in 2022,” the report says.
The company also added that the data of both users and employees gets into public access. This can be not only work information, such as position and email address, but also personal information, including mobile phone number and financial information.
“A data leak can affect any company. We expect that in 2023 their number could grow by 20%. At the same time, it is likely that attackers will continue to pay attention to the retail sector, which historically stores enormous amounts of information,” said the expert of the Laboratory Kaspersky” on cybersecurity Igor Fitz, whose words are given in the message.
