The European Union’s executive arm told workers they could no longer use the TikTok app on government-issued devices, extending the ban across the Atlantic from the United States, which has similar restrictions on state and federal officials.
The move will affect thousands of officials and employees of the European Commission. The European Commission is the highest executive body in Europe. Officials in Europe and the United States are currently reviewing TikTok for security reasons. TikTok’s parent company is Beijing-based Bytedance Ltd.
