Assistance to industries in the transition to Russian engineering software

Rosatom State Corporation has launched a program to support the transition of Russian industries to domestic engineering software for mathematical modeling.

During the year, at the Rosatom site, developers, together with industry, will discuss the practical application of Russian CAE systems and form functional and technical requirements for Russian software, taking into account the specifics of industries and enterprises. The first practical seminar, addressed to transport engineering enterprises, was held at the state corporation last week.

The Rosatom program is aimed at strengthening the technological sovereignty of the Russian industry in the field of digital technologies and increasing the competitiveness of Russian industrial software. At the first stage, it is planned to conduct a monthly cycle of events for the energy and oil and gas engineering, fuel and energy complex, as well as the aviation, aerospace and nuclear industries.

The kick-off event for representatives of transport engineering enterprises was attended by specialists who provide the processes of mathematical modeling and engineering analysis in complex industries of the industry, as well as employees of leading research organizations in this field. The main issues on the agenda were the methodology for switching to domestic CAE systems, the functionality of the Logos and REPEAT digital products from Rosatom, as well as the pSeven software package from Datadvance, which is part of the Consortium of Developers and Consumers of CAD/CAE Systems. The participants of the seminar were shown the results of test operation of software for engineering calculations from Russian companies, as well as comparative verification of Russian and foreign software.

Opening the seminar, Dmitry Fomichev, Director of Mathematical Modeling of Rosatom, emphasized the key role of consumer industries in improving Russian industrial software. The interaction of enterprises with developers opens up the opportunity to reduce the time for improving software products and achieve a level that fully meets the needs of the domestic industry. “Our goal is to create a unified CAE computing platform that will allow us to cover the class of tasks being solved to the maximum extent to provide the most complete functionality, including 3D and 2D modeling, as well as 1D modeling. Therefore, it is important for us to know the needs of enterprises, their proposals and requests in order to focus and form such a system within the horizon of two to three years.”

Dmitry Fomichev recalled that as part of the development of domestic CAE systems, in 2022 the Consortium of developers and users of CAD / CAE systems developed seven projects for implementation on the basis of industrial competence centers (ICC), four of which were approved by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development and received grant support from the state . “Following consultations with industrialists, we will be able to initiate new projects for the development and implementation of industrial software, which will be another step towards technological sovereignty in the field of mathematical modeling,” he stressed.

Specialists of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center – VNIIEF (Rosatom), working on the Logos software package, presented to the seminar participants the new functionality of the Logos Aero-Hydro, Logos Heat, Logos Strength and Logos Platform modules.

Roman Korolev, Deputy Head of the RFNC-VNIIEF (Rosatom) Department, emphasized that Logos is developing taking into account the specifics of industries and specific enterprises, and feedback from consumers is the most effective tool for solving the problems of switching to domestic software without losing the efficiency of production processes. “We are faced with the task of consolidating the efforts of developers and customers for the further development of Logos so that the level of its functionality fully meets the challenges of the future. We are open to dialogue,” he said.

The head of the project office for digitalization of Rusatom Service JSC (Rosatom) Yuri Stepanov said that the development of the domestic product REPEAT class 1D CAE systems is being implemented taking into account the experience of foreign companies, and its accelerated development can only be subject to an active dialogue with industrial consumers , which will ensure an international level of competitiveness: “We studied the experience of foreign colleagues who are now present in the simulation market and reproduced some test cases. However, the lack of live communication with the customer puts us within the framework of examples and relative proximity to real needs – together we will achieve results and be able to bring the Russian REPEAT product to the world level.”

Yuri Stepanov added that the developers are ready to consider a pilot project, thereby investing in solving specific problems of various consumer enterprises: “We are looking for a real customer who will voice real requirements. Together with this customer, we are ready to quickly start solving the issues that he faces, as well as investing our own funds in this process as part of a pilot project.”

As an example of successful cooperation with automotive manufacturers, the result of testing an import-independent platform of the REPEAT model-based 1D modeling environment, which was developed by specialists of JSC ETC JET (Rosatom), was presented at one of the enterprises: using the software package, the behavior of the electrical systems of a car was successfully simulated in various conditions. Among the functionality of the REPEAT package are a new computational simulation core for multi-domain systems and full integration with PLM/PDM systems.

During the discussion, representatives of the largest automotive companies outlined their requirements for the functional content of engineering software that meets the needs of the industry. Proposals were made for the development of the Logos product in terms of developing functions for working with geometric objects, building computational grids and processing simulation results.

The Government of the Russian Federation and large Russian companies pay great attention to the development of the digital economy. The conditions created for the emergence and accelerated implementation of modern technologies will make it possible to create Russian software as part of programs to achieve technological sovereignty in the digital sphere.

The accelerated development of industry directly depends on the pace of transition to a modern technological basis, domestic digital solutions. The country’s leadership sets the task of ensuring the mass introduction of Russian digital solutions in all strategic industries. Rosatom takes an active part in this work, coordinating the creation of import-substituting software for various applications.
