Alibaba Group's DAMO Academy Leads ChatGPT-like Chatbot Development, Media Writes

BEIJING, Feb 8 – PRIME Chinese Internet giant Alibaba Group’s DAMO Academy is developing a conversational robot similar to US company OpenAI’s ChatGPT, 21 Shiji Jingji Baodao reported on Wednesday, citing a technical expert from the company.

It is noted that the chatbot is already available for testing by the company’s employees.

At the same time, the publication reports that to create a chat bot, the company can combine the technology of pre-training of large artificial intelligence models with the productivity tools of the DingTalk platform for corporate communication developed by the Alibaba Group (similar to Zoom).

ChatGPT gained popularity after its launch in late November, reaching its first million users in less than a week. Its imitation of human conversation has sparked speculation that it could supplant professional writers and even become a threat to Google’s core search business. The bot belongs to OpenAI, one of the founders of which is Elon Musk.

On Monday, American Google announced that it is working on an experimental conversational AI service based on LaMDA, which will be called Bard. The company has already begun testing the product with the intention of making it available to users in the coming weeks.

Chinese technology company Baidu on February 7 announced the imminent launch of a new artificial intelligence project, ERNIE Bot, which will be launched in March this year after the completion of an internal testing process. Once launched, ERNIE Bot will work similarly to ChatGPT. It was reported that the four-layer architecture of artificial intelligence has ample opportunities for deep semantic cross-language understanding and text generation.
